Boy oh Boy, Sigg is not BPA free!
Today Sigg announced that in fact the lining they had used in their bottles was not BPA Free. But, they advised today that their NEW bottles are in fact BPA Free. Seems a little late, you think? The twitter world and mommy community is in a bit of an uproar as Sigg has all along stood behind their bottles as the choice for BPA free bottle alternative.
As quoted on ZRecommends:
Consumer groups have been alleging since at least 2007 that SIGG bottles are lined with a BPA-containing epoxy, and on the face of it the claim makes sense - SIGG bottles are aluminum, after all, the same material used in canned foods, infant formula, and soda that have been second-class citizens in the debate over BPA exposure. SIGG, in turn, maintained that their bottles did not leach BPA, but that they could not disclose the formula for the liner because it was made by someone else.
I don't know about you, but I feel cheated and betrayed. Although, they now claim to be free of BPA it sure seems like they took their time to tell everyone. Seems like a long enough cycle to sell off any of their existing stock before they introduce the new product, what do you think?
Bottles affected were sold before August 2008 and have a brassy lining similar to the lining in a can of tomatoes. The new BPA free bottles have a dull, beige colored liner. More information can be found in the following articles.

Baby Food Recipe No. 1
Red Lentil and Peach Puree
Lentils are a healthy baby food as they contain Iron, Protein, and are high in Fiber. Lentils also contain a myriad of minerals as well as B Vitamins. This tiny little legume will offer your growing baby a lot of nutrients.
There are a lot of great lentil recipes, besides the one below you can mix them with carrots and brown rice or sweet potato and chicken/tofu for some added protein.
Gwen loves this dish!
2 fresh peaches, peeled, sliced and pitted
1/4 C. minced onions
3 TBSP unsalted butter
2 1/2 C. low sodium chicken broth
1/2 C. red lentils, rinsed and picked over
1 tsp. red wine vinegar
1. In a medium saucepan, saute onion in the butter for about 3 minutes, until it softens. Add the 2 1/2 C. broth and bring to a boil over medium high heat. Add the lentils and vinegar, and cook for 10 to 15 minutes, until most of the liquid is absorbed. Add the peaches and cook for 1 to 2 minutes more.
2. Combine the lentil mixture in a blender or food processor fitted with a steel blade with about 1/4 C. warm broth and puree.
3. Serve warm or at room temperature. Freeze leftover puree that won't be eaten the next day.
When freezing baby food, a great way to easily freeze and reheat is to use plastic ice cube trays. Fill them with the leftover food, cover them tightly with aluminum foil and freeze until solid. Remove them from the tray and place in a plastic freezer bag. Label the bag with the date and contents. This should keep for 2 months and whenever your baby is hungry you just put one of the cubes in the microwave and instant homemade baby food!
